DISH THE DETAILS…

For some reason, it makes an odd kind of sense that this gem of a restaurant would find itself nestled between a church and a gay bar. There is a sense of it feeling like a focal point within the Galway community. A place for the meeting of minds. Breaking of bread.

kai:
1. (verb) (-nga,-ngia) to eat, consume, feed (oneself), partake, devour.

Kai is the Maori word for food and in 2011 Jess & Dave Murphy opened the door with a simple promise:

What’s in season will be on your plate.

The space is simple; a rustic lunch deli by day and a more elevated, romantic eatery by night. The team exude a cool sense of confidence, effortlessly gliding from table to table in a spot that I suspect is rarely quiet. Battling storm warnings to be there, our meal was the warm hug we needed. Wholesome, hearty, fresh and flavourful. If you are looking for a slice of revitalisation you will find it in the careful and thoughtful dishes in Kai.

THE ALPHABET DINNERS JOURNEY CONTINUES NEXT MONTH…

Next month Richie turns 40, so we are marking the occasion with something ludicrous and thrilling…watch this space…

Cheers, crew! 🥂

Osteria Lucio is very literally tucked away from the rest of Dublin in a building called The Malting Tower in Grand Canal Quay. The ingredients are seasonal, local and carefully selected for flavour and quality. The wines are all from Italian smallholdings. The coffee-infused Negronis are stupidly good. No really. Have two.
