DISH THE DETAILS…

Self-described as a “sophisticated approach to traditional Indian food”, this is precisely what you will find when you visit Pickle on Camden Street, Dublin. The space perfectly sets up the food you will enjoy; vibrant, rich and packed with character.

There is an elevated authenticity to Pickle. Restaurant manager Benny Jacob takes pride and deep care in ensuring this seamless operation. Pickle hums with energy, without being noisy. There is enjoyment in the air, with movement and life in every corner. Colour adorns every wall, decorated with authenticity and nostalgia. We were greeted and served by suave and confident wait staff who took attentive care of us for our evening.

The menu is glorious, but it could result in choice-overwhelm for the uninitiated – so don’t be afraid to ask for a recommendation.

WE NEED TO DISCUSS THE FOOD…

It is no wonder chef Sunil Ghai has a plethora of awards tucked away under his apron. Born in Gwalior in central India and trained within the auspicious Oberoi group of luxury hotels, Sunil has shaped a menu that brings a completely unique way to enjoy Indian cuisine.

And yes, I know your Indian delivery restaurant does a fab Korma – but I will put money on it not being anything even close to what is on offer in Pickle.

Make no bones about it; the food here is flavourful. I am writing this review weeks later than I had planned to, and I can still close my eyes and relive the Dal Bukahara (a lentil dish made with black gram, tomatoes, cream and I suspect a lot of butter). Every dish is presented with colour and care. Soak up the flavours with your freshly cooked, buttery naan bread. Oh, you think you’ve eaten enough?! Not a hope – keep going. Relish every single bite.

Pickle is head and shoulders above any other Indian restaurant we have eaten in. Yes, it is a tad more expensive, but every single bite reminds you why.

TAKE PICKLE HOME WITH YOU

Sunil Ghai has distilled his knowledge into a cookbook you can take home with you after dinner. I strongly recommend you buy his book.

Pickle has been operating since 2016 and is one of our few, resilient, independent restaurants in Dublin. It should be protected and supported at all costs.

Book a table. Tell a friend. Tell em we sent you ♥

THE ALPHABET DINNERS JOURNEY CONTINUES NEXT MONTH…

Next month we are spicing it up with the letter “Q”…any guesses?!

Cheers, crew! 🥂

Still hungry? Here’s more

O is for – Osteria Lucio

Osteria Lucio is very literally tucked away from the rest of Dublin in a building called The Malting Tower in Grand Canal Quay. The ingredients are seasonal, local and carefully selected for flavour and quality. The wines are all from Italian smallholdings. The coffee-infused Negronis are stupidly good. No really. Have two.
